AAC: Seminar on experimental archaeology in Rõuge, Estonia

From 1st July until 3rd of August the Project "ARCHAEOLOGY, AUTHORITY & COMMUNITY: cooperation to protect archaeological heritage" (AAC) held experimental archaeology seminar in Rõuge, Estonia. The aim of the seminar was to introduce Iron Age living environment through practical work and ancient building techniques.
The seminar took place by the replica of Viking Age house that was built in 2010-2011. During this year seminar walls of the smithy were built, the barn (walls of which were built last year) was relocated and the roof construction for it was made.

When finished, the reconstruction of Iron Age farmstead will consist of the main house, barn, stable, smithy and a summer kitchen and it will be possible to use it to organize workshops on archaeology and ancient handcraft.

More events informing about different aspects of history in Estonia and Russia are planned by the Project in September, please check the Events Calendar of the Programme.
