COMMON PEIPSI: Laying the cornerstone of Kallaste slip
On 18 July was laid the cornerstone of Kallaste slip. The slip is necessary for ship reparation and maintenance and is constructed in the framework of the Large-scale infrastructure project “Economically and Environmentally Sustainable Lake Peipsi Area” (COMMON PEIPSI).
The ceremony took place with background performance of the brass band, which played lined up on the construction site. Officials of local government, member of the Parliament and people, who have supported the establishment of the slip, gave speeches and emphasised the importance of the slip for people living around lake Peipsi.
The slip is mainly meant for the maintenance and reparation of the ferryboat “Koidula”, which is sailing between Laaksaare and Piirissare, but can be also used by all other bigger ships, which go along the Lake Peipsi.
By now big amount of preparatory works has been done: access road to the slip is established, the stream Torila has been lead to new bed and the foundation of winch is arranged. According to the construction contract, the slip should be ready by the end of November 2014.
The cost of slip construction is 881 878,86 EUR. From this amount ca 475 000 EUR is financed by the ENPI Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme and the rest from the state budget of the Republic of Estonia.
This bilateral project contributes to the improvement of the environmental situation of the Lake Peipsi, establishes preconditions for the development of water related tourism and increase in water related traffic and encourages entrepreneurship and development of tourism related businesses.
On the Estonian side
