European Commission delegation meets final results of Estonia-Latvia-Russia Programme in St. Petersburg
On 12-13 November 2015 the group of officials from the European Commission Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Regional Programmes Neighbourhood East, including Mr Vassilis Maragos, Head of Unit and Ms Carmen Falkenberg-Ambrosio, Head of Section, accompanied by Ms Elena Karnovich, Project Manager, EU-Russia Cooperation Programme, European Union Delegation to the Russian Federation had paid a visit to St. Petersburg.
In the afternoon of 12th November the delegation had meeting at the site of the project ELRI-112 “Establishment of environment in Võru (Estonia), Sigulda (Latvia) and St.Petersburg (Russia) for development of tourism” with the key project partner from the Russian side – Committee for physical culture and sports of St.Petersburg.
The fully equipped service house for sports in Primorsky District of St. Petersburg was presented by first Deputy Chairman of the Committee - Mr Nikolay Vasilievich Rastvortsev, he had introduced visitors to the significant results and outputs of the project and their importance for the development of sports and tourism infrastructure of St.Petersburg, international cooperation in this sphere, shared future plans for sports development in the city and expectations of potential role of cross-border cooperation in regards to the coming European Neighbourhood Instrument 2014-2020.
Mr Andrey Igorevich Relkin – First Secretary, Representation in St.Petersburg, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, had made introduction to the vision of the Russian Federation on the importance of the cooperation with the European Union and on its cross-border cooperation component in particular.
Ms Veronica Vladimirovna Spiridonova – Specialist, Department for International Cooperation, Committee for External Relations of St.Petersburg, had provided audience with the overview on the results of 9 projects of Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme implemented in the city and expectations for the new programming period 2014-2020.
Within the course of general discussion delegation was also informed on the practical use of newly developed facilities and the way they are to be maintained in the coming years.
Mr Vassilis Maragos had provided information on the timeline of the CBC Programmes preparations in the framework of ENI 2014-2020 and stressed the key role of regional authorities in identifying specific Programme’s objectives.
