HELPING TO LIVE: Medical specialists from Estonia exchanged experiences with Russian colleagues on HIV prevention and medical care

In the framework of the Project "Reduction of social consequences of an HIV spread in Estonia and Leningrad Region of Russia" (Helping to live) a week study visit on HIV problematic for medical specialists from Estonia was organized from 28 April till 2 May. The study tour was participated by MTU Evrica specialists, as well as the project team, medical staff of Narva hospital. 

Participants of the study tour visited Ivangorod hospital and took part in joint Estonian-Russian seminar. The main topic of the seminar – current situation in HIV spreading in bordering regions and organization of medical care for diseased was equally important for the visiting delegation and the hosts. The specialists discussed not only medical care questions, but measures of HIV prevention and social support, and perspective of future cooperation in this field.

Estonian specialists visited the office of preventive medicine in Kingisepp policlinic, opened last year in the frame of the project, which provides social and psychological support to people with HIV problem. The aim of this office is to organize events promoting and supporting healthy life style in border regions. They as well were introduced with the work of rehabilitation Centre “New Life”, which has several offices in St. Petersburg, Kotly and Preobrazhenka.

Estonian guests also shared their experience of work with HIV patients in Estonia, their methods and techniques.
