Reconstructed Victoria bastion now open for visitors

On 18 December, 2015 the opening of Victoria bastion of Narva-Ivangorod fortresses ensemble was celebrated. From this day on, the fortress ensemble with its previously closed tunnels will be open for wider public.  The exposition in the tunnels is designed to introduce tourists with the history of the bastion covering time period from several centuries ago until nowadays.


Representatives from Estonia and Russia were invited to the opening ceremony of the Victoria bastion  - Mr Indrek Saar, Estonian Minister of Culture, Mr Arto Aas, Estonian Minister of Public Administration, representatives from Committee of External Relations and Committee of Culture of Leningrad oblast, representatives from Ida-Viru County government, municipalities of Narva and Ivangorod,  Joint Technical Secretariat of Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme,  entrepreneurs involved in the project, as well as inhabitants of Narva. After an excursion in the bastion, opening speeches were delivered with words of gratitude to all parties that took part in the project implementation and funding, as well as good wishes for the future developments of this project were expressed by all speakers.


The project has a budget of about EUR 6.9 million. The program's contribution is approximately EUR 6.2 million, including the Republic of Estonia's contribution of about 1.8 million. The project partners are Narva City Government, Department for City Development and Economy and “Museum Agency” Leningrad Oblast State Budget Institution of Culture.
