Visit of the Ambassador of the European Union to Pavlovsk

On October 21, 2016 during his visit to St. Petersburg, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Russian Federation Vygaudas Ušackas together with his spouse Loreta Ušackienė visited the State Museum reserve Pavlovsk to learn about the results of the project "Two pearls of the landscape parks in Eastern Europe" and prospects for further development of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the European Union in the field of historical and cultural heritage preservation in cross-border areas.

  


The project was aimed at preserving and developing the cultural and historical heritage of the palace and park complexes of Pavlovsk and Aluksne, it was implemented under Estonia-Latvia-Russia Cross-border Cooperation Programme within the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument 2007-2013 by the partners from the State Museum reserve Pavlovsk and the municipality of Aluksne (Latvia).

  

The results of the project were presented to the Ambassador by Oleg Ushakov, the first Deputy Director of St. Petersburg State budgetary institution of culture "State Museum-reserve Pavlovsk'" and experts of the museum. The delegation visited the Great cascade which was renovated under the project, it was officially opened after the reconstruction on June 3, 2014. In the process of restoration, the retaining wall and the cascade portal were recreated with the maximum use of original details of the building, they also reconstructed the main pipe and renovated the balustrade.

  

The Ambassador also visited the museum collections which were expanded and became more attractive due to the implementation of the joint project, he also discussed ideas for future projects under EU-Russia Cross-border Cooperation Programmes in the new programme period 2014-2020.
